About a month ago I made this little felt Totoro for Kyle. For those of you how don’t know Totoro is a character form a movie, My Neighbor Totoro, right now it’s one of our favorites.
I used felt to sew my first Totoro and he came out great. So great, that I decided to do another one out of fleece as a pillow case.
…….well…… it has turned into quite the frustrating project. As you may know fleece is stretchy, to combat this I interfaced his whole body but I still had quite a bit of trouble sewing around his belly spots.
Everyone who saw me working on this project told me I was being way too particular about this but it’s just how I am. I didn’t want to do a crappy job and then have to look at it all the time sitting on my bed just sucking…..
side note —- upon living with little Totoro for a month I’ve noticed he has no forehead and it bugs the crap out me
I did finally get the belly spots all looking good and re flattened the belly with some under wonder. My back and ear pieces were already done so I was super excited to sew him up. But upon stuffing a feather pillow inside him I discovered that it wasn’t going to fill out his body and little arm numbs as well as I’d like ……so he is floppy…….
It’s difficult for me to share this picture because I think he looks like shit and after all that time , it’s really frustrating… but I also think it’s important to share not so perfect things on my blog cuz thats how real life is, not everything comes out perfect.
Kyle thinks Totoro looks great, and I will admit he is comfortable…but I’m gonna consider this project not done yet. I’m thinking about making a special feather pillow for him… I’m not sure yet.
So there’s one of the gifts I was sewing….done but not really… anyways I hope your having a great week and maybe if you’ve never seen My Neighbor Totoro you should give a chance during this lovely long weekend : )
