In this collection of work I wanted to explore my ability to realistically render subjects through tonal charcoal drawings. I hoped to further enhance the illusion of realism by contrasting my subjects against boldly colored, abstract backgrounds. Each background was its own experiment in color and execution. Although the backgrounds are more striking, their lack of information forces the viewer to study the detailed tonal subjects.
