As you may have noticed in the descriptions for my bags I mention that they were made with new and repurposed materials, and you may be wondering “what exactly does she mean by repurposed and whats being repurposed anyways?” If you are then excuse me well I do my happy dance of accomplishment, making my bags look like they weren’t made from recycled fabrics is always one of my goals. Don’t get me wrong I’m proud to be creating beautiful things with recycled fabrics, I just want them to look just as good as new fabrics. Anyways, today I though I would elaborate a little.
The repurposed part of my bags is usually the printed fabrics that were once upholstery samples. Small pieces of interior design fabrics, kinda like what you would look through if you were getting a chair re-upholstered. Sometimes they’re big (around 30 x 30″) more often they’re pretty small, the one photographed above is about 12.5 x12.5″, and always, there’s only one of each.
I love working with upholstery samples because I can give a new life to something that might otherwise become trash. Sure the “one of each” part causes some cutting anxiety but it also means each bag is unique and I can only make a limited amount, thus Limited Production.
Well I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my process and don’t forget to stay tuned I’ll be sharing new bags made with these samples soon enough.
